I Sent For You

CW: suicide

I sent for you, did you feel me?

Lonely girl,

playing at the base of your father’s footsteps.

You had three imaginary friends,

Lisa, Moses,

and the third you could not name.

in your mind, always on your own

In the real,

I was always right there with you…

I sent for you, did you feel me?

Sad woman,

waiting in the garage with the exhaust running.

A little bird waits with you on the dash…

willing to die alongside you

if that’s what you choose.

But

if not

my love was sent for you.

Just stay for a little while…

I know you feel me.

You looked at that little bird

as if it was as big as God!

Worthy of life and death…

As you turn off the ignition,

what a joy it was

for you to choose life.

For yourself.

For that little bird.

And for me.

Forever yours,

The third imaginary friend,

Maia

Maia Caschera-White

Maia Evelyn Caschera-White (she/her) is a young contemporary poet with a voice encapsulating many lifetimes. A Mother, who now stands advocating for the right of every Mother to autonomy and self-determination. She writes with cathartic surrender, a wailing reminiscent of the dark night of the soul. She embodies motherhood beautifully, in word, and in deed, birthing, nurturing and guiding all who dare to listen. Gifted with the poetic ability to translate repressed trauma into words, leading us through the essential courageous steps necessary for our healing, self-discovery and ultimate joy. She gives definition to that which cannot be defined. Brings to our vision the unseen. She knows that while mourning may last for a night, enlightenment comes in the morning.
