Little Girl

I remember being that young girl who was fully clothed at the beach,

Or that pre-teen who bought expensive powder to hide her stretch marks,

Or the teenager who played basketball with a t-shirt under her jersey to hide her arms,

Or the woman who always cancelled pool plans to lay in bed and watch Netflix;

Feeling insecure.

Who told her...

That she wasn’t beautiful?

What made her feel unloved?

To that little girl who lacks confidence, this is for you.

Little girl, wear those shorts and show off your legs.

They are beautiful.

Sing that song that makes you smile.

The world needs to hear you.

Check that man when he makes an inappropriate comment about your body.

How you feel is important

Don’t diminish your light before the world gets a chance to see it.

You matter.
