Letting Curiosity Lead and Reclaiming Your Voice with Urmi Hossain

Season 4 Episode 10

On this episode of Wellspringwords: The Podcast, Nkem has a lively conversation with Urmi Hossain about the path of entrepreneurship through curiosity and fear. This is a conversation about women’s empowerment, reclaiming our voices and our interests, and believing our stories deserve to be heard. Scroll below for the topic timestamps.

Nkem starts the conversation by sharing with us that she views entrepreneurship through the lens of being a creator, and that sharing something from her own spirit is an integral part of her entrepreneurial journey. She believes that giving back to the community requires having something valuable to offer. Through her various activities, Nkem has discovered what she truly wants to contribute to the world, Wellspringwords being part of that vision.

Urmi's journey began with an entrepreneurship class that sparked her interest, but she yearned for something more personal. Although she initially pursued a corporate career, the pandemic changed her perspective on the subject. During this transformative time, Urmi's creativity blossomed, leading her to create a blog and YouTube channel where she could share her innovative ideas and provide assistance to others. Seeking diverse income streams, she wrote a book. Known for her proactive approach and refusal to wait for things to happen, Urmi's friends describe her as having a creative entrepreneurial spirit. For her, entrepreneurship means being able to think outside the box, come up with innovative ideas, and strive for improvement. She shares with us that to her:

“Entrepreneurship means being able to be creative, innovative, and coming up with different ideas to make things better.”

Nkem continues by sharing how it stems from the desire to contribute to the community, understanding that you cannot give what you do not possess. Through engaging in various activities, individuals come to recognize what they truly have to offer and what they wish to contribute to the collective. Urmi took a different approach and discovered a newfound appreciation for working alone and independently. During her journey, she uncovered untapped potential within herself that she was previously unaware of. She never imagined she would create the things she did and gain confidence and valuable connections along the way. Taking on the role of a self-leader, Urmi passionately follows her own interests and pursuits, paving her unique path in entrepreneurship. For Nkem, the journey of entrepreneurship involves navigating doubts and interests. It poses the question of whether to seize an opportunity or let it remain a "what if." It entails understanding one's capacity and reconciling personal desires with societal expectations.

“Every time I'm scared of something, what does it mean?”

Urmi reflects on the significance of fear and how it conveys messages to us. She discusses the importance of analyzing our fears, understanding their origins, and searching for meaning within them. She suggests that even if there is no tangible treasure to be found, there is often something positive that emerges from facing our fears.

Nkem underlines the role of self-value in the entrepreneurial journey. She encourages individuals to recognize the inherent value in what they have to offer and to share it with the world. Urmi mentioned the idea of fulfillment derived from non-monetary sources. She explores how tapping into our personal values and making positive changes can lead to a sense of fulfillment. She also highlights the power of connection among individuals in fostering change. Nkem adds to the conversation by discussing the relationship between earning money and the value gained from putting our passions out into the world. While financial exchange is a part of the equation, it does not have to be the primary focus.

Both Nkem and Urmi emphasize that through the external learning experience, true wisdom, knowledge, and understanding reside within ourselves. They emphasize the importance of trusting and respecting the creative journey, recognizing it as a valuable resource for personal growth and entrepreneurial success.
